    • When the Transmission breaks at 36k miles...

By JA DIJCKS on Saturday, January 28, 2023

Let me start by saying, overall the A4 is an enjoyable car to drive. and I've been happy with its performance, etc. That Said HOWEVER... ...my 2017 Audi A4 Premium Plus car is garaged, and ALL dealer services done on time and documented. Less than 36,000 and I got a transmission light that it's drivable but that it should be serviced when possible. I noticed a very slight shudder, or slip on a couple occasions, mainly when lightly accelerating into turns, but that's it. A trip to the dealer service dept., netted me a bill of almost FIVE-THOUSAND dollars for a transmission repair. They had the nerve to offer me a trade in for a new one. REALLY? ...my A4 has LESS than 36,000 miles on it, and I have a broken Transmission? With ZERO help from Audi or the Dealer, Um, Never, ...Never will I own an Audi again. Next car? May as well buy a Hyundai, with an included 10 year 100,000 mile warranty...
    • Best car I've ever owned, quick, quiet, great MPGs

I test drove a lot of cars but kept coming back the the Audi A4, Consumers Reports gives it excellent reliability rating and high marks across the board. The Premium plus has excellent LED headlights, so much better than the 3 series. With the headlights on a side shining LED light turns on with the turn signals lighting up the side of the road you're turning into. The 2.0t Engine is one of the best in the industry, it's a gem with excellent toque pulls and pulls. I get 25 MPGs in town and 39 highway, so much better than I expected. The digital dash is also excellent, you can have the GPS screen right in front of you clear and so easy to read. Sit behind the wheel and instantly you know you're in something special, start driving and everything feels right. I always tell people to drive the car you're interested at night, headlights are so important, sadly even some top brands have poor headlights. The base A4 headlights aren't as good as the Premium Plus or prestige models. Audi should put the best headlight in EVERY model . BMW 3 series makes you order the Laser Headlights as a $1000 option to get decent headlights.
    • Luxury compact sedan, can't go wrong with the A4

This luxury compact sedan is absolutely great. The Premium Plus trim comes very well equipped and you can feel the quality in the details. It offers a quiet and smooth ride. Long distance road trips are actually a pleasant experience driving the A4. The engine is *ok*, has been reliable - well... to be fair, it's been only 20k miles, but so far, so good. Driving settings can be adjusted to your stye and the Dynamic mode effectively adds some "sporty" feeling to the drive. Suspension is well balanced between too stiff and too soft, the dual exhaust sounds great but it lacks a bit of bite. Being a previous VW GTI owner for years, I really miss the punch - not that the GTI is a power monster, but... Overall I still feel the A4 was a good trade in favor of comfort.
