Good car but it's an oil eater
By JDLam | on 11/15/2023 3:48:10 PM
I've had my 2016 limited ultimate AWD SF for 4 years and am the second owner sitting at around 93,000 mi. It's fully optioned and very comfortable. I love my giant pano sunroof, my a/c seats, heated steering wheel, the sound system and the space. I don't really love the exterior look of the car but I spend 100% of my time inside the car and I enjoy the cabin. Otherwise, it looks like every other circa 2016 SUV out there. It's grey too so it gets lost in parking lots all the time. Pretty sure my family has walked up to other grey suv's about a dozen times since we owned it. Very BLAH! Like many other hyundais, and other manufacturers, it suffers from the dreaded oil consumption problem. We've had two other hyundais and were the original owners and hyundai swapped out our engines with little hesitation after they went through the oil consumption testing. As a second owner, the warranty is not the same and you will not get the privilege of entering the car into the oil consumption testing phase to qualify for the new, free to you engine. The current guidance is that you have to do all your recommended maintenance and oil changes and SHOULD the engine fail, hyundai MAY provide you a new engine, but it's still not 100%. We've been watching oil levels almost weekly to ensure I'm not driving around with no oil and it's been maintaining some weeks but others, it's definitely eating the oil. It's frustrating and somewhat concerning, but after doing some research, I learned many other car manufacturers, (Honda, Toyota, Kia) also have oil consumption issues. Outside of the oil issue and regular wear and tear items, our Santa Fe, has been good to us. I would not hesitate to get another hyundai but would consider new for the enhanced warranty.…
